In this metaphor for the modern workplace, three teams must operate their own CataPults, but also coordinate with others to optimize a shared system. When variables change, everyone must adapt. Use CataPults for cross-departmental collaboration, Six Sigma and CIP (continuous improvement process).

This product is in stock and ready to ship.

Three teams are situated in three corners of a large room. Each team must build a CataPult from a construction set, then use it to launch 12 plastic balls toward one of three targets. The teams and targets are paired to form a transportation chain, and everyone must collaborate to move as many balls as possible through the chain.

This is a real challenge because the targets get progressively smaller and there are multiple variables that impact the quality of each team’s launches, including the tension and angle of the CataPult launch arm, and the tilt and height of the base plate. Each team has to experiment and adjust their CataPult settings accordingly until they perfect their technique.

Yet as soon as they do, there is a surprise ‘team rotation’ that creates stress, and calls for creative problem solving as everyone adapts to new CataPults with different settings and targets.

The more balls a team successfully launches to each successive target, the higher the score.

This kinetic activity is ideal for exploring the interdependence of functional areas, dealing with complexity, systems thinking, and the incremental development of new procedures.
