Tower of Power
Inspire your group with a challenge where cooperation and excellent communication are the keys to success.
How it Works
Standing in a circle, each participant holds one of the ropes that are connected to the metal crane in the center. Eight wooden blocks start upright on the floor and the group must use the crane to lift up the blocks and place them one on top of another to form a tower. The objective is to build the highest and most stable tower possible.
The task appears simple but each block is cut at a different angle and stability is harder to maintain as the tower grows taller. The group must plan effectively and coordinate their actions with excellent communication every step of the way. Failure to do so, and the feedback is immediate!
Themes & Outcomes
Team Development: collaborating and cooperating, using skillful teamwork to achieve goals
Communication: communicating clearly and effectively
Leadership: giving and receiving direction and feedback, dealing with risk, managing change
Systems Thinking: recognizing interdependencies, synchronizing the actions of the parts to achieve system goals, maintaining balance
Performance Improvement: focus on goals, learning and adapting to make progress
House of Values
Label each block with a different team or company value and stand them upright on the floor. Challenge the group to build a 3-story house with the fundamental values forming the ground floor. This variation is easier because the construction reacts less sensitively if mistakes are made.
